Help your contacts and customers with things other than what you sell or your specific specialty. Every once in a while think about what the customer is dealing with in his or her life. Maybe you know they aren't happy at the current job, see if you can get them a new job. Maybe they don't like another vendor they are using for a non competitive product, recommend them to someone you trust. Maybe one of their kids is suffering from ADHD or some other disability or issue (my kids have ADHD as do myself and we are doing great cause its being treated well) and refer them to your methodology or doctor or therapist. Now obviously you would have some report with this customer prior to this but these are great ways to step aside and go out of your way to show that its NOT all about the SALE and that you truly care about the business relationship for the long term. Maybe even see if he or she runs a charity or support group or church group and donate your time, money, goods etc. These types of things set you apart from most salespeople in the industry. Be different. Be real. It will ooze out to your customers that YOU are the one they should continue to do business with.
God bless the Hurricane Victims. I am from Long Island and its devastating.
